Dear Parents,
Holy Week began yesterday with Passion (Palm) Sunday and will end on next Sunday, Easter. This week in Religion your children will learn about Holy Week so that they can accompany Jesus through the events that lead to his Passion and death on the cross. Your children also continue to do their daily kind acts that unite them with God. I will be collecting their Lenten Booklets on Wednesday.
Last week your children began to write a narrative piece of fiction about characters that develop new understandings about each other. This week we revise, proofread and publish these pieces of fiction.
This week in Math we continue learning about adding and subtracting decimals. On Wednesday we will have our test on chapter 20. You can use pages 454 to 456 in the textbook and the practice test to help your child study.
This week we will finish learning about fast changes to the Earth’s surface, such as landslides, earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. On Thursday we will have the test on this chapter. You can use chapter 5 in our textbook and the study packet to help your child study.
Our class musical, “Geology Rocks,” is quickly approaching (April 23 at 2:00), and your children are working very hard in class to learn the many songs. I know this is right in the middle of the workday, but if possible, try to attend. Roles will be assigned this week. The children are so enthusiastic and excited that I am certain that they will be wonderful. If you would like to help construct our backdrop, your help would be greatly appreciated. I always keep backdrops simple and usually use paper stapled to the wall to create a picture although you will have the freedom to create whatever you like. Mrs. Belloni and I were given simple ideas with the script that we will share with you. If you are able to help, please fill out the survey below and return it to school with your child. Thanks so much!
If you have any questions or concerns please drop by, or e-mail me at triciaheis@aol.com.
Sincerely,
Tricia Heissenbuttel

Dear Parents,
Last week was World Hunger Awareness Week, and Friday was World Hunger Awareness Day. This was a day on which we fasted during recess and ate a simple lunch of rice and beans to show solidarity with those who suffer from hunger on a daily basis throughout the world, especially the people of Haiti and Chile. Your children continue to be very generous in donating their money to the people of Haiti during our snackless Fridays.
Your children also continue to share kind acts with others in their quest during Lent to grow closer to God and to be prepared for Jesus’ resurrection. The crucified Jesus in our classroom is becoming a beautiful rainbow of color that represents all of your children’s good deeds. Drop by to see it if you would like.
Last week in Math your children began learning about decimals and their relationship to fractions. Our test on this chapter will be tomorrow. You can use the practice test and pages 434 to 436 in the textbook to help your child study.
In Social Studies, your children will begin to earn “gold nuggets” as we mine for gold by answering questions correctly. Next week each of your children will chose a research topic and work in a team to create a powerpoint presentation.
In Science last week, we learned all about plate tectonics and how shifting plates can cause earthquakes and tsunamis. This is a wonderful connection with our 4th grade musical, “Geology Rocks” which your children will perform on Friday, April 23 at 2:00 in the parish hall. Please mark your calendars and make an effort to be here. I am certain if you are able to attend that you will be very entertained and that your children will be very proud. Last week your children received their audition scripts. This week, on Thursday during Music class, Mrs. Belloni and I will conduct the auditions.
Scholastic Book orders are due on Wednesday. Remember, you can use the form and send a check made out to Scholastic Books to school (please do not send cash) or you can order on line using the following information.
