Dear Parents,
This week we will concluded our unit in Family Life by learning that God has blessed all of us with different gifts and talents which are meant to be shared and that living in a community means including everyone. By sharing these gifts and talents we are serving others and living out our Christian faith. As Christians, this is what God calls us to do. The attached pages will help you to discuss these topics with your child. For the remainder of the school year we will be learning about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Last week’s chapter 27 test had to be postponed due to May Crowning practices running longer than I expected. The test will be tomorrow. You can use pages 614 to 616 and the practice test to help your child study.
In Science we finish the school year by learning a bit about magnetism. In Social Studies this week your children will finish our unit on the Gold Rush. We will have our test on Wednesday. Your children can use their Gold Rush booklets to study for this test.
Your children have really grown to be strong communicators this year. Not only did they do a great job with their Science Fair presentations and in “Geology Rocks,” they also really impressed me when they presented their Gold Rush PowerPoint presentations to the class.
On Tuesday, June 8, we will be going to Las Palmas Park in Sunnyvale for our class picnic. Lunch will be provided for all of your children thanks again to our tireless room moms, Renee Fujji and Sally Cincu. We are still deciding on the menu, and I will let you know in next Monday’s letter. Your children have the permission slips in their homework folders. Please return them to school by Friday.
There is a creek that runs through the park and water sprinklers. If you think that your child would enjoy exploring the creek or playing in the sprinklers, please send an extra pair of water shoes and a set of dry clothes. Please also apply sunscreen before your child comes to school and label all clothing items clearly.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Renee Fujii and Mrs. Sally Cincu for organizing this day and the many other fun activities that they arranged for us this year. Thanks to them, we have had wonderful experiences learning about the lives of the Spanish and Native Americans at the mission at San Juan Bautista, building electrical circuits at Intel and visiting our state Capitol in Sacramento. They have been wonderful room moms and have done so much to make 4th grade a very memorable year. Your children and I owe them a big thank you. If you have any questions or concerns, please drop by, or e-mail me at triciaheis@aol.com.
Sincerely,
Tricia Heissenbuttel

Dear Parents,
Last week in Religion your children learned that when we receive the Eucharist we are reconciled with God and with each other and how this helps us grow stronger in our faith. This week we will finish Unit 4 in Family Life, specifically how a fetus begins with one cell and develops into a baby. This can be a wonderful opportunity for you to have open discussions about sexuality with your children.
The May Crowning is Thursday night. Remember, all of your children are expected to attend this event. Your children should wear their “Sunday Best” clothes and should bring a flower to the classroom. We will meet in the classroom at 6:40. To honor Mary, we have been collecting layette items to help mothers who have less than we do. Currently we have very few items in our box so if you would still like to donate items it would be greatly appreciated. You can send them to school with your child for the remainder of this week. If your child is unable to attend please send a note to school as soon as possible.
Today in Math, I introduced Mathletics to your children. Mathletics is an interactive Math website that will support our Math curriculum and provides fun, extra practice to your children. This will be a program that they can use at home to bolster their Math skills. I believe that it will be a great tool to use during the summer so that your children can keep their skills sharp. Your children brought home a card that has their sign in and password. Please ask your child for this card and keep it somewhere so your child has access to it yet it won’t get lost. Attached is a letter explaining how you can register so that you can monitor your child’s progress.
We will be having our Chapter 27 Math test about area and perimeter on Friday. You can use pages 614 to 616 and the practice test to help your child study.
Last week in Science we learned about the uses of electricity and have now finished our unit on Electricity. This week we will review chapter 6 in class. On Thursday, your children will have their test on this chapter. You can use your child’s study guide to help him/her prepare for this test.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Social Studies your children will be making their presentations using the PowerPoints that they created. Your children have in their homework folders a copy of the two slides that they will present, their notes about what they are going to say, and the rubric that I will use to grade them. Please use all of these to help your child prepare for his or her presentation.
If your child received a blue progress report, and you have yet to return it, please send it to school tomorrow with your child. And if you received a yellow summer school recommendation form in the Tuesday Envelope a few weeks ago, please return it by Wednesday. If you have any questions or concerns please drop by, or e-mail me at triciaheis@aol.com.
Sincerely,
Tricia Heissenbuttel
