The 6th Grade Math Class has moved into studying geometric figures. We will start with an introduction to geometry and then we will move onto measuring and classifying angles (acute, right, obtuse, straight). Then we will learn about angle relationships (vertical, adjacent, complementary, and supplementary) and find angle measures.
In the second part of the chapter we will examine polygons. We will classify polygons, in particular we will spend time on triangles (by sides: scalene, isosceles, and equilateral; and by angles: acute, obtuse, and right) and quadrilaterals (parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square, trapezoid). We will finish the chapter by looking at congruent figures.
The big ideas in this chapter are:
- Students will be able to determine the relationship between angles and describe these relationships.
- Students will be able to use facts about angles and triangles to find unknown angle measures.
- Students will be able to draw triangles and quadrilaterals that fit a given description.
