Welcome to the St. Joseph of Cupertino community!
Rich in tradition, our parish school was established in 1956 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary - who are celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2023. St. Joseph of Cupertino parish was the first to open a school in the valley and has remained a leader in education since then. To date, St. Joseph of Cupertino School (SJC) consistently earns the highest test scores in the Diocese of San Jose. But education is not just about test scores. At SJC, we focus on the education of the whole child, cura personalis.
First and foremost, SJC is called to be a faith community, to know and celebrate God’s love for us, and to make that love known to others. And we are also committed to service, knowledge, and leadership, as these four focal points are the pillars of our educational community.
My name is Jennifer Packard and I am the principal of our parish school. I joined the SJC leadership team in June 2022 after working in the Jesuit Schools Network, Diocese of San Jose, and multiple public schools in Silicon Valley, including Cupertino Union School District. My educational journey began at Resurrection School in Sunnyvale, continued through St. Francis High School in Mountain View, and extending to Colorado State University where I earned my BA, Santa Clara University where I earned my MA in Teaching, and University of San Francisco for Catholic Educational Leadership. I am currently in an invitational leadership cohort through the Jesuit Schools Network, the Seminars in Ignatian Leadership, where a group of 15 leaders from across the country meets bi-annually. I love learning and anticipate continuing my educational journey for as long as I am able.
I feel blessed to return to the parish where my husband, Ron, and I were married 22 years ago and where our first son, Andrew, was baptized. This homecoming was welcomed by a strong parent community and student body, as well as an inspirational faculty and staff. Together, we are emerging from the pandemic with a determination to rebuild our vibrant community - filling our calendar with community building events, adding new programing, like robotics and teacher-led clubs, as well as reestablishing our community outreach, musical theater program, liturgical choir, and yearbook team, and continuing our commitment to differentiated learning - giving challenges to our highest achieving students and offering intervention services to those who are in need. We are committed to the superior education of each child, meeting them where they are at, and helping them develop into the unique gift each one of them is in the eyes of God.
We look forward to you welcoming you to SJC, where you will feel the Holy Spirit as an active and guiding presence in all we do.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Jennifer Packard
