Feedback from our Community

2020-2021 School Year

In today’s technologically advanced but often socially disconnected world, we are so thankful to be a part of the SJC community. The school is led by the tech-savvy Principal Lee who communicates effectively, navigating the school through uncertainties with great skill and agility. The SJC spirit is embodied by teachers like Mrs. Carmona and Mrs. Wilson whose hearts for the kids are evidenced in their meticulous attention to detail in crafting lesson plans that cultivate academic excellence and emotional development. SJC values are shared by active parents who together endeavor to raise well-rounded and respectful children.

Importantly, SJC is fun! Our kids love going to school as if they are embarking on a daily adventure. The preschool Christmas play was adorable. The Halloween party was legendary–from the student-created haunted house to the game booths to the family-designed trunk-or-treat exhibits to the epic music by a parent DJ. “Best party ever!” exclaimed our kids. SJC knows how to have a good time and we feel so blessed and proud to be a part of this community in every sense of the word.

Our journey at St Joseph of Cupertino began in Preschool, 2012. One thing that has been constant for ten years, is the synergy between Parents, Teachers and Students. There is a strong collaboration between the parents and the teachers, to develop and educate the students. The teachers genuinely care for the students' welfare and have a strong desire for their students to do well. Their relentless energy to develop the students goes beyond the academia and you get the sense of a respectable close knit between the teachers and students.

We appreciate the spirit of learning in a fun environment. SJC students are well rounded. This is well observed under their SPARCCLS values. It is a set of values that help the students grow spiritually, academically, and socially. We looked at several schools before joining SJC, fast forward to today, we have no regrets. SJC is a great school and we would recommend it to others.

~ The Authier Family, Grade 8

We have been blessed to be part of the SJC family for 18 years. My youngest daughter will graduate from Saint Joseph of Cupertino this year. We have two older daughters who also graduated from SJC. Our oldest daughter is currently working on her master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at Santa Clara University. Our second daughter is majoring in Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara. SJC provided our children with a solid foundation in their early education which allowed them to pursue careers of their choice. But SJC has been much more than an educational springboard. The school has provided so many opportunities for pursuing academic interests, for spiritual introspection, opportunities for community service and many extracurricular activities ranging from team sports to many clubs. But most of all we love the SJC community that is comprised of the wonderful teachers, staff and the SJC school families.

~ The Semaan Family, Grade 8, Class of 2016 and Class of 2013

This is our children’s first year at St. Joseph of Cupertino and they absolutely love their new school. When we pick them up after school, they are always so excited to share with us the details of their day.

We enrolled our three children (in second grade, kindergarten, and preschool) at SJC because we wanted a well-balanced school, with a challenging academic curriculum and also a strong focus on social-emotional learning. Before SJC, we were at our home schools in the Los Altos school district. We made the decision to change because we were looking for smaller class sizes, education geared towards the individual needs of our children, and a more caring environment.

We couldn’t be happier with our decision. Our children constantly tell us how much they love their teachers and friends at school, and on the weekends, they are itching to go back to school!

We love the sense of community at SJC. The principal, all the teachers, the office staff and the parents are so kind and helpful. This fosters an environment in which all the children are also kind and helpful to one another. Our daughters in 2nd grade and kindergarten are paired up with “buddies” in the upper grades; they love having a big sister to look up to and do special activities with.

It’s very comforting to know that when we drop them off at school, they are well taken care of when they’re away from us. The school is almost like a home away from home. The teachers and staff are all so loving and it really shows that they care about each and every student. The health and safety protocols at SJC have made us feel very safe sending our kids to school every day during the pandemic this year. All of the students and staff follow the masking and social distancing rules; there is weekly COVID testing available for the students at school. Our kids have not missed any days of school this year as a result of COVID related quarantine.

We are very happy with SJC and are so grateful that our kids are able to attend this wonderful school.

Our family is so blessed to be a part of the SJC family! When we were first searching for an elementary school for our eldest, we toured around ten schools in the area and ended up falling in love with SJC. Right away, it felt like home to us.

We love the sense of family and community within the school. All of the SJC staff, teachers, students, and families are so friendly, caring, and welcoming. It was clear from the beginning that SJC focuses on developing the whole child, not just academics.

After learning that SJC also had a top notch preschool program, we enrolled our youngest as a Junior Jaguar.

~ The Ilagan Family, Preschool and  Grade 1

The passion of the teachers and staff really shows through in the way they help and care for our child. I remember feeling so grateful in the first month of the school year that my son can be safe during this pandemic and learn an incredible curriculum. The feelings have deepened even more since. My son has grown so much in just the five months of this school year. The community festivities like Halloween Fun Night and various class events have often been described as “the best day ever!” We love SJC.

~ The Abella Family, Grade K

We enrolled our three children into the elementary and preschool in the 2021 - 2022 school year. As with starting any new school, we were initially nervous about how things would go for our kids. But the environment has been very friendly and accommodating, we are so pleased. It's a great community - the parents are down to earth and there are many opportunities to get to know each other. The teachers are a real treasure of the school - not only are they very experienced, but they are so dedicated and committed to the students. They are always opened to follow up chats, the work material is varied, and classrooms provide a fun learning environment. It's wonderful that there are teacher aides up through Grade 8, ensuring extra care and attention all the way through. We have been impressed with the transparency and communication: we receive regular packets with our children’s work done so far and weekly emails of what will be happening in the classrooms. In the preschool, there is so much individualized attention provided by the three preschool teachers, which is ideal for this active age group!  Finally, it was important for us that we chose a school that valued its Catholic identity. We have been happy to see Fr. Michael as a regular presence at school events and that parent involvement in faith formation is welcomed and encouraged.

A family: that is SJC to us.  We have been part of this community for over 10 years, and we have been blessed every single day. Our school community never stops thriving for excellence in every way. Since day one we loved the school, but as the years went by, we fell in love more and more. Some parents became friends, and others became like family to us.

The teachers at SJC are number ONE! They are always prepared to teach in a respecting and loving manner, while challenging the children to become well-rounded individuals. The SJC staff is also fantastic, and you can feel their love in every corner of our school.

Our daughter is a freshman at Saint Francis High School, and I tell you, she has been excelling for many reasons, but one of them is the excellent academic foundation she got at SJC. Our son is in 6th grade.  He enjoys being at school with his friends.  He loves mathematics and science.  He participates in Math Club, and he is also playing soccer.  Even with all the challenges faced with the pandemic, SJC has done a superb job keeping our children, staff, and families safe.  Our principal is always trying to find ways to offer resources or programs for the children so they can expand not only academically, but spiritually, emotionally, and physically.  Both our children started in preschool, as Junior Jaguars, and since then SJC became our partner in educating them.  At SJC our children have received academic excellence, and have enjoyed exciting extracurricular activities, thrived in sports, and discovered their passion for the arts!

We love how much our children love SJC, and that is invaluable to us.

~ The Castejon Family, Grade 6 and Class of 2021

I enrolled my daughters (current 2nd grader and the other is a former 8th grade student) at SJC because it offers a challenging academic program and numerous extracurricular activities.  The teachers and staff are approachable, and they truly care about the students.  SJC provides a strong sense of community that is also very important to me.

~ The Duldulao Family, Grade 2 and Class of 2020

SJC prepares its students well for high school and beyond. My daughter graduated from SJC in 2019 and transitioned very successfully to a competitive high school environment. She tells me often that she's thriving in high school.

~ The Lo Family, Grade 8 and Class of 2019

The teachers of SJC are very kind, creating an environment where our children are able to be themselves. They see the best in our children and help our children not only grow in their academics, but also grow their values to be able to care about others.

~ The Rothenberg Family, Grades 6 and 8

We really appreciate the great school communication and sense of community. Families are encouraged to be involved and the school fosters inclusion.

~ The Palomar Family, Grade 5 and Class of 2021

Every staff member at SJC keeps the lines of communication fluid. Most importantly, the principal, Mr. Lee takes all measures to keep our children safe.

~ The Le Family, Grade 6

We value a Catholic education as it helps to grow the whole mind and whole body. SJC has teachers and staff who truly care for the children. The parents are generally community oriented and help to foster an environment that is not only good for their child, but for all the children.

~ The Chow Family, Grades 1 and 4

Such a loving and caring community!  My son loves SJC, and that is all that matters.

~ The Chen Family, Grade 4 and Class of 2021

My daughter was quiet, insecure, kept to herself most of the time, and was unable to grasp many of the topics due to a significant language barrier as a new immigrant. Due to her language barrier and distinct family history, she was frequently excluded and mistreated by the other children at public school. Upon joining the SJC community 4 years ago, she improved dramatically both intellectually and socially. During her time at SJC, her language skills vastly improved.

This school provides an outstanding academic program that allows each student to reach their best potential. SJC's teachers are incredibly compassionate and friendly. They make it a point to treat everyone equally with respect and provide help to those who need it. The staff members at SJC truly go the extra mile to make the school a better place. Aside from academics, I have noticed that ever since my daughter started attending SJC school, she has grown much more compassionate, outgoing, and open-minded. Every student is friendly, which makes the SJC community a bully-free environment where everyone can be themselves without fear of criticism.

~ The Wang Family, Grade 8

Caring and professional teachers.  The first thing I noticed was how welcoming teachers and students are at SJC. It had a different feeling than the other schools we were looking at. Choosing SJC was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my son.

~ The Voisine Family, Grade 8

The Junior Jaguar Preschool is a wonderful way to introduce a child to education. It is the perfect combination between focusing on academics while learning though play.  We believe that this program is preparing our daughter to thrive in kindergarten.  We are so grateful that our daughter has been able to have such a wonderful early educational experience.

~ The Bergstrom Family, Preschool

SJC has everything we were looking for (and more) in a school:

* Whole Child Approach

* Lots of time for outdoor creative play and learning

* Academic Excellence

* Strict Adherence to COVID-19 Protocols

* Open and Frequent Communication between school administration and teachers

* A welcoming community that instills care and compassion in others

Our children have competent, caring, and kind teachers who go above and beyond to provide the best educational experience. They instill the magic and awe of learning in their students. Our children are always excited to go to school every day. For my son’s all about me poster, he shared that his most favorite place is SJC. That speaks a lot about how the students feel about SJC. It is a product of the hard work and dedication of the SJC administration, teachers, and staff.

During our SJC school tour and orientation, we repeatedly heard “You’re going to love the SJC Community.” Our family did not know what it was about. As we immersed ourselves in SJC, we learned that the SJC community is your daughter’s preschool teacher asking if we needed a jumpstart in the parking lot because we had our car’s hood opened; it is the SJC staff who checked on my son’s socks and shoe after splashing on a puddle; it is my son’s teachers who make my son very excited to go to school every day; it is the SJC parents who care about your children the same way they care for their own; it is the 8th-grade buddies that our son looks up to; it is the group of students waiting patiently every morning to walk their friend to the classroom. Our family feels so blessed to be part of not just an extraordinary school, but a part of the SJC family and community as well. We are beyond grateful that SJC has kept our students safe and healthy as we all do our best to provide a ""normal"" life to our precious children amid the never-ending challenges of the pandemic.

People say that one of the best things you could give your children is a good education. SJC champions in academic excellence. We are in awe of what our children have learned, how they are able to write in D’Nealian handwriting style, and how they have grown with values and faith. You know you’ve made the right decision on giving your child the best education when your son in kindergarten repeatedly tells you “I’m going to be in SJC until eighth grade!”
